Painting the Spirit of Bali

Putu Adi Suweca — known in the art community as Cyx Daeng — is a painter from Baturiti, in the Tabanan regency of Bali. Growing up surrounded by mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, rice fields, and coastline, nature became the foundation of his artistic voice.

His work blends the traditional Sigar Bali painting technique — characterized by rich color gradients, bold contour lines, and motifs drawn from classical Balinese art and Indonesian batik — with a modern energy influenced by Gustav Klimt and Takashi Murakami.

Central to his art is the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana: the harmony between humans and nature. Each painting is a meditation on that relationship, rendered in acrylic on canvas with vivid color and intricate detail. His motto, "SemangART" — a blend of the Indonesian word for spirit and the word art — captures the passion driving every brushstroke.
